ASME B30.9

Slings

Selection, inspection, use and removal from service of slings — synthetic web and round slings, wire rope, chain and metal mesh. The part a supervisor needs is the rated capacity table read against the sling angle, because capacity falls as the legs spread and the load on each leg can exceed the weight being lifted. Also sets the removal-from-service criteria, which is what a pre-use inspection is actually checking against rather than a general impression of condition.
