About AlpineTutor
AlpineTutor explains engineering specifications in plain language — what a material grade means, why a pipe schedule matters, what a welder needs before striking an arc. It is written for people who have just joined the industry and have to read a specification on Monday morning.
Why the site is free
Every explanation on this site is open to read. There is no account, no trial and no paywall in front of the teaching, and nothing is held back to make a paid product look better. That is a deliberate commitment, not a launch offer.
What is sold is structure and assessment on top of the free material: a deliberate order to work through, worked examples with the traps left in, exercises with model answers, practice questions written from the codes, and a marked assessment ending in a Certificate of Completion. If you only ever read the free pages, the site has still done its job.
Who runs it
AlpineTutor is operated by Alpine Industrial Services, an inspection and engineering consultancy based in Chennai. The material is written by people who do this work for a living — third-party inspection, procurement support and engineering consultancy for operators and fabricators — which is why the pages tend to dwell on what actually goes wrong on site rather than only on what the clause says.
Our founder

S. Srinivasan
Founder — Alpine Inspection Services and Alpine Industrial Services
S. Srinivasan founded Alpine and leads both Alpine Inspection Services and Alpine Industrial Services. He brings more than 34 years of experience in inspection, procurement and engineering consultancy, and in particular in third-party inspection across the oil, natural gas, petrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors.
Under his direction Alpine has built a client list spanning India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States. He also co-heads a fabrication business in South India, which has now completed its twentieth year.
AlpineTutor grew out of that work — the explanations an inspector or a young engineer normally has to pick up piecemeal on site, written down properly and made free to read.
A word on how to use this site
Content here is for learning. Always design, build and inspect to the current edition of the governing code and to your project specification — not to a tutorial. Where a page names a standard, it is telling you where to look, not standing in for the document itself.
